There is power in the ceramic arts. It’s a force that has steadied and bolstered humanity since the beginning.

If studio ceramics are having a “moment” right now, I suspect it’s because many of us are unsatisfied with certain aspects of modern life. Our consumption revolves around the mass-produced and industrially engineered — it’s shoved down our throats every waking moment. Pottery (like natural wine) offers an alternative: here is a tangible connection to another human, and to the earth. If you look closely, you can see fingerprints in the clay.

Pottery came to me in the wake of a personal trauma, and it provided a space to heal and strengthen myself. Since then, I’ve been seeking a functional pottery form that dances on the table and in your hand. I make pottery to keep you company. The best wines have their own individual character, and the best ceramic pieces do as well. As I continue to develop as a potter, I see that I too am a work in progress. Every pot is unique. Each lives its own life.

I’m a potter seeking the long view on an ancient craft.
